FUNWHOLE F9042 Cyberpunk Neon City Oasis Apartment w/ Lights Review updated.

△Recently, I’ve accumulated quite a few new sets, and this Funwhole Neon Oasis set immediately caught my eye due to its stunning light effects. I couldn’t wait to start building it as soon as it arrived! Before we dive into today’s review, let me share a “poisonous” shot of the finished product—MARVELOUS! I was blown away by how amazing it looked once assembled! I couldn’t believe it was from such a recently established brand. After experiencing it firsthand, I realized that Funwhole excels not only in lighting but also in the build experience, which even gave me a LEGO-like feel. Definitely not your average quality! Now, let’s get into the detailed build process and my thoughts!
![]()
△The packaging box isn’t very large, but it’s quite hefty.
![]()
△On the back, there are warnings in multiple languages, clearly targeting an international market.
![]()
△Close-up of the special minifigure on the side of the box.
![]()
![]()
△Product information on the other side. The manufacturer is GoBrick? No need to worry about brick quality then.
![]()
△The set includes two instruction manuals.
![]()
△Stacked up, they’re even thicker than a regular minifigure’s leg…
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
△The print quality is extremely high, and there are several pages of introductions, showing the brand’s attention to detail. It’s a pity it’s all in English, which isn’t ideal for Chinese fans.
![]()
△Funwhole’s standout feature is definitely the lighting. The manual provides a detailed breakdown of all the lighting components included.
![]()
△It also includes safety instructions for the battery box, a guide for connecting the light cables, and how to use the brick separator.
![]()
△There’s even a special page comparing the actual colors of parts with the ones shown in the manual. Years ago, I suggested this to some brands, and it’s amazing to see it implemented by a brand I’m trying for the first time.
![]()
△The set includes a battery box, but it can also be powered by a regular power bank.
![]()
![]()
△There are 2,507 pieces in total, divided into 11 step bags.
![]()
△There’s also an F bag with minifigures and wiring parts, an S bag with hoses and light guides, and bag #1 with large base plates and a brick separator.
![]()
△Let’s start with the minifigures. Aside from the hat (or hair), every part of the minifigures is custom-made.
![]()
△There are various types of special wiring parts. They may seem ordinary at first glance, but their clever design becomes apparent during the build.
![]()
△The shape of the separator is also unique, with “FO” engraved on the side—Funwhole’s brand logo.
![]()
△The light parts are packaged in an orange bag.
![]()
△A screwdriver and tweezers are also included, which shows great attention to detail!
![]()
△The transparent, printed light-up signs are of incredible quality.
![]()
△It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a set this rich in detail from a Chinese brand! There are advanced pre-built reinforcements throughout, and the innovative use of wiring pieces shows the designer’s extensive knowledge of both LEGO systems and light elements.
![]()
△Once the base is done, you can hardly see any wires at all.
![]()
![]()
△Continuing to build, you can constantly feel the joy brought by the structure! Each part has its own unique design, making it super satisfying to build.
![]()
![]()
△High-level design techniques like limiters and reinforcements are visible everywhere, and I highly recommend that you get a set to experience it firsthand—you won’t regret it.
![]()
![]()
△At this point, I’m quite satisfied. Although the structure is impeccable, the integration of lighting adds to the difficulty and requires some extra time. The recommended age of 16+ on the box is no exaggeration! Thankfully, the instructions are very clear, justifying the manual’s thickness.
![]()
![]()
![]()
△You can clearly see the use of many SNOT (Studs Not on Top) techniques in the structure.
![]()
△After around 8 hours, it’s finally complete!
![]()
△Let’s arrange the minifigures and take a shot of the finished set first!
![]()
![]()
△Since it’s cyberpunk-themed with unique lighting effects, it’s best viewed against a black background to fully capture its vibe (also adds a premium feel).
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
△Although most of the wiring is hidden, some parts are inevitably exposed, but not in the main viewing angles, so it’s not a big deal.
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
△All patterns in the set are printed, giving it a very premium feel.
![]()
![]()
△Notably, the base on both sides of the finished model has conductive connectors, which the brand calls “modular power supply.” Based on this, it seems Neon Oasis might just be one part of the cyber series (beware, wallet!).
![]()
△The printed illuminated signs add a strong cyberpunk vibe.
![]()
△The rolling door is movable.
![]()
![]()
△This spot is amazing! Thanks to a special lighting connection, this small scene can rotate without cutting off the light—so cool!
![]()
![]()
△The battery box is hidden in a corner. Its black surface blends in, so it doesn’t look out of place even when not in use.
![]()
△The effect of the light guides is fantastic…
![]()
![]()

![]()
![]()
![]()
△The huge sign also enhances the cyberpunk theme.
![]()
△The main building has a modular design with easy-to-remove layers, all with conductive components at the connection points, so you can see the interior even with the lights on! However, perhaps due to its unique shape, it’s not the easiest to disassemble even with this feature, so there’s also a “back-opening” design.
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()
△That’s pretty much it. I’ve always felt that back-opening designs are better than vertical modular ones—what do you all think?
![]()
△The set includes 7 minifigures with different designs. Due to well-known reasons, they have a distinct look compared to traditional minifigures.
![]()
△Before trying it out, I thought Funwhole products were a bit pricey, but after building this set, I realized it’s well worth it! Apart from the impressive lighting, the high-quality structural design surprised me. The designer clearly has experience with LEGO, and I’d bet they’re not just a casual builder but someone who’s studied it deeply!
Additionally, the lighting components, unique wiring pieces, and other custom parts show that these weren’t created just for a single product but rather with a “universal parts” concept in mind—quite ambitious!
Overall, Funwhole isn’t just a “lighting brand” as one might assume; instead, they have design capabilities comparable to any current Chinese brick brand. Compared to other options that lean into trendy toys, Funwhole’s upgrades in traditional brick-building suit me much better. Do you all feel the same way after reading?
